Atatürk Olympic Stadium

About the Stadium

The Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul is Turkey’s largest stadium with a capacity of over 75.000. Completed in 2002, the stadium has hosted numerous sporting events, most notably the unforgettable Champions League final between Milan and Liverpool.

Despite hosting sporting events of the highest caliber, the stadium has also been criticized for a number of issues, most notably the problem of strong winds during games.

When chosen as the venue for the 2020 Champions League final, a comprehensive renovation was completed to address these problems. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the final was relocated in both 2020 and 2021, with Ataturk Olympic Stadium scheduled to host the prestigious event in 2022.
