Active Oxidation Solutions for HVAC Systems Against Infectious Diseases

The Covid-19 pandemic has reemphasized the importance of using HVAC systems as effective preventative measures against contagious diseases.

Air conditioners without the necessary precautions could pose a number of health risks. One of the best ways to make sure that air conditioners improve the air quality of your buildings and prevent the risks related to airborne infectious diseases is to use cutting edge Active Oxidation systems.

How does Active Oxidation Technology (AOT) Work?

Active Oxidation systems consist of two generators that are added to preexisting HVAC systems: an ion generator, and an ozone generator.

Ozone is an extremely strong disinfectant that destroys all unwanted microorganisms in the air. One of the advantages of using ozone for increasing air quality is that this is a completely natural process Ozone consists of three oxygen atoms that come together, and the system does not rely on any chemical compounds throughout the whole process.

Another important aspect of ozone is that it has very low stability. This means that the ozone released from your systems does not linger, it simply disintegrates and turns into oxygen. This means that AOT creates no residue after the disinfection process is completed.

Ozone and Human Health

Ozone can be toxic for humans in large quantities, but has positive impact on health with proper use. In fact, there are many areas of medicine where ozone-based treatments are commonly used.

The rate at which ozone in the air starts to be dangerous for humans is 200 μg/ m3. The World Health Organization suggests caution for levels above 120 μg/m3.

AOT Solutions offered by Dansuk Engineering only use a rate of 15 – 30 μg/m3. This is lower than the amount of naturally occuring ozone in most open-air environments (~35 μg/m3), and poses no threat to human health.

The second aspect of the system is negatively charged ions, which are among the most important components of fresh, high quality air. These ions are so important for air quality that most natural places that we associate with fresh air simply have a very large proportion of these particles.

For instance, a high, mountainous area can have a negatively charged ion proportion of 6000 ions/cm3, and a forest a proportion of 1500 ions/cm3. On the other hand, closed spaces — where most of us spend the majority of our daily lives — have a proportion of nearly 0 ions/cm3.

Active Oxidation Systems – Advantages

The ozone and ion generators placed in your systems disinfects your closed spaces and dramatically increases air quality.

These two generators can be offered as a part of a brand-new HVAC system, or they can be implemented in your existing systems. This means that you can easily use AOT with your existing infrastructure.

The two components of the system can work independently when needed. As the generators start working according to the needs of the room, the system ensures that efficiency and air quality are always at an ideal level.

You can see some of the most important advatages of Active Oxidation Technology below.

Decreased Risk of Disease

AOT eliminates pathogens in your air conditioners, disinfects rooms and destroys microorganisms on surfaces.

Improved Air Quality

Negatively charged ions increase the air quality in your closed spaces.

No Harmful Chemicals

AOT Systems do not use harmful chemicals or leave residue after disinfection.

Continuous Protection

Unlike systems that require the room to be empty, AOT systems work continuously in the background.

Lowered Costs of Maintenance

As your systems are constantly disinfected, AOT lowers your need and costs for maintenance.
